Although most of my work is computer generated and doesn't include photographs, this series on the illusion of glass refractions began with photos I took of old abandoned linotype machines. When I was 10 or 11 years old (1947), I worked part time in an old letterpress printing shop. Part of my duties included maintaining the big turn-of the century machine and making segments of type. I thought that the old machines were beautiful and made ideal subjects for the illusion of distortion through imaginary glass.
